You can be born in a grey French town & wish you were growing up in Harlem, or in Brazil.
You can guess at that with Jean-Philippe Miasnik, writer & lyricist for the band General Purpose. If the man has listened to a wealth of pop music, you can tell that he was raised on soul & the bossa rhythms of Ipanema & Copacabana.
General Purpose's music mixes all of these influences, without resulting in anything stodgy. On the contrary, lightness wins through with General Purpose, thanks to the devilishly effective - and yet subtle - percussion, and their sunny guitars à la Tahiti 80 or Phoenix.
General Purpose were born in 2005 and have changed line-up several times since then to settle on 5 great musicians: two guitarists, Jean Philippe & Christophe, Jean-Baptiste on bass, Bueno Everton on drums & Jacob on percussion.
A line-up geared for live performance, General Purpose's preferred terrain, where there songs become even more electric, with a rockier vibe and where some of their ballads take wing to seek out new folk horizons.
Original & captivating.
