To inspire emotion, certain musicians resort to many & various tricks & devices, to pyrotechnical extravaganzas. Let's be honest: unless you have Scott Walker's genius it's hard to pull off, it's often a disaster, too much grandiose and it tends to miss its target.
For his music, Eleanor L. Vault has decided to favour minimalism and be sparing, and the result is deeply moving and of a rare intensity.
Eleanor L. Vault is Paul Levis's one-man project. A multi-talented genius, since 2002 he's been creating music for theatre, stage shows, films: pop-folk snippets of amazing grace that'll give you gooseflesh and a lump in your throat like never before.
It's not a question of pure old-school folk, even though we love it when Simon & Garfunkel do it: Eleanor L. Vault is resolutely in the avant-garde, up there with Pascal Comelade.
Toy pianos, glockenspiels, typewriters, concertinas, the music of Eleanor L. Vault resembles an enormous treasure chest. Or a trip with Alice, through the looking glass...
