Live performance is one of the great quests of any rock group. Being onstage means the songs can be played differently and that certain emotions can be more directly relayed to the audience.
Live performance is Carvel's favourite territory; the group is steely, powerful, ambitious - ceaselessly improvising, and also epic, thanks to their unmatchable melodies.
Formed in 2006 by John & Xavier, two guitarists formerly of Women For Hank, Carvel's name is taken from the title of first song on the cult John Frusciante album, Shadows Collide With People. The reference is astute: Frusciante is amazing onstage, for example with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The group quickly recruited Vincent on drums & Juliette on bass, and started looking for gigs right away - where they could really shine.
How can all this passion & energy that explodes out of the group in concert be rendered down to an album? That will be Carvel's challenge this winter, with a much-awaited debut on its way.
It'll be huge, incandescent, daring (we know John's taste for sonic experimentation). Having heard the first demos going around, we're impatient...
