When you take a look at the history of rock from its coos and gurgles in the Fifties to the present day, you notice that there aren't many trios. And yet the formation gives a certain sense of urgency and allows a raw musical style, more effective and more direct.
Onstage, it can also be a more hardhitting lineup and since Placebo have dragged the trio back into fashion, we're carefully following the bands that choose to construct themselves that way.
In Nice, we found one of the most exciting pop-rock trios of the moment: Astrolab.
The band was formed in 2005 by Greg (guitar/vocals/sampler) & Fred (drums). And they've recently been joined by Sab on bass.

Ever since the release of their first EP in 2008, Astrolab love to distil intimate lyrics, mostly in English, backed by an electric, chaotic pop-rock soundtrack where soaring electronic noises and abrasive guitars blend for your listening pleasure.
You might have guessed: this energetic rock takes on a whole new sense in a live situation, the trio formation lending itself to a tight, compact performance.
Their new EP is now available on Pop Only Knows, alongthe lines of Interpol or Placebo.
